About the Studio
Established 30 years ago, Theodore Cohen is a specialist in
restoration and conservation of seventeenth to mid-nineteenth century American,
English, and Continental furniture and related decorative arts. He has an extensive
foundation in the history of objects d'art with specialization in furniture. A Portfolio of Theodore Cohen's conservation work is offered for your review on this site. If you are going to be in the area, call and arrange a personal studio appointment.
Mr. Cohen works with a wide array of techniques and surface finish applications
found in these periods. He has extensive experience in the expert repair and replication of period
construction and finishing - retaining integrity of age, color, patination and value. Commissions are accepted for reproductions to complement existing antiques or to replicate pieces too rare to
find or afford.
Working from a secure, full-service studio located close to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
within easy access of all major routes, he accepts a range of project types and levels. All projects - whether
involving the most valuable and important pieces or the more modest - are given the same careful attention. His
reputation for high standards has been earned not only in his conservation practice, but also in the service he
provides in finding and offering antiques for sale. A select number of these objects are featured for sale on
this site in the Sales Gallery.
Supplemental services include consulting, professional scouting for specific items,
conservation surveys, wood analysis, traditional upholstery, appraisal reports, and professional furniture
transportation.
